What DOES BOTOX DO for Chronic Migraines and TMJ?

While the mention of BOTOX may cause one to think of wrinkle relaxers, it is actually often used as a common treatment for chronic migraines and temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders. By temporarily reducing muscle contractions, BOTOX is known to reduce migraines for up to three months. When injected into the head and neck, BOTOX can treat:

  • Muscle spasms that cause migraines
  • Swelling in the face
  • Pain around the neck and ears
  • Teeth grinding
  • Sore cheeks and/or jaw

Dr. Jon Hendrickson, Dr. Samantha Rahrig, and our aesthetic team at Dental Beauty Wellness Center offer this noninvasive treatment to men and women in Bloomington, Columbus, and surrounding Indiana communities. For more information on how BOTOX can help reduce your migraines and jaw-related pain, schedule an appointment at our Trafalgar, IN office today.

What Can I Expect from My BOTOX Treatment?

Your BOTOX injection will be performed in one of our comfortable treatment rooms and takes just a few minutes. Using a small needle, one of our skilled aesthetic technicians will inject the BOTOX solution into your head, neck, jaw muscles, or more depending on your treatment plan. This will cause the muscles in those areas to temporarily stop contracting, thus improving your migraines or TMJ. When you leave, you can get right back to your normal routine, but you may experience some redness, tenderness, and swelling. This will go away shortly. Most of our patients find relief in about 1 – 2 weeks, with stronger and longer-lasting relief after multiple injections. We can set up follow-up visits based on your particular needs.
